Pakistani sailor nabbed for assaulting girl

By Khalid Hasan

Washington: Nadeem Ahmed, a Pakistani sailor who jumped ship, was caught after he assaulted a 14-year old girl in New York City’s Central Park.

According to New York Post, “Pakistani sailors asked cops for help locating a missing seaman – and found him in a Central Park jail cell last night, where he had been busted for allegedly assaulting a teenage girl. Nadeem Ahmed, 30, turned up at the Central Park Precinct station house at 72nd Street after sexually assaulting a 14-year-old Massachusetts high-school student about 6:00pm, police said.”

A police source told the newspaper, “They were talking in the park, he grabbed her, and he kissed her on the mouth. She struggled away and got help.” Ahmed was in the city for Fleet Week celebrations. Police had been on the look out for him after a missing person’s report was filed with them on Thursday when Ahmed went absent without leave (AWOL) from his ship, PNS Tipu Sultan. Two Pakistani ships are in New York on a goodwill mission.

However, Talat Waseem, Washington-based Pakistani Embassy press counsellor, on Saturday called the report false, Online reported. Group Captain Nadeem said no such thing had occurred and the navy was investigating the allegation.
