Shah, Sachchal, Saami peace forum formed
Staff Report
KARACHI: Sindhi intellectuals, poets and writers from Pakistan and India have decided to form a Shah, Sachchal, Saami International Peace Forum (SSSIPF), after the names of the three great mystic poets of Sindh, which will hold peace conferences annually in the two countries to promote peace and affection among their peoples.
The participants at the concluding session of the Shah, Sachchal, Saami conference on Tuesday adopted a resolution suggesting formation of the SSSIPF to allow Sindhis play their part in the ongoing efforts to bring the two nuclear-armed neighbours closer.
The conference was told that the formal formation of the forum would soon be announced and there would be two chapters of the body – one in India and the other in Pakistan, which would work with close coordination.
The 32-member delegation of Sindhi poets and writers, led by Suresh K. Keswani, an Indian intellectual and member of the Rajya Sabha (upper house of the Indian parliament), crossed the border into Sindh around two weeks ago. They attended the Shah, Sachchal, Saami conference for three days at a local hotel and then proceeded to a whirlwind tour of Sindh, which they or their ancestors had left after partition 57 years ago.
