France clinch hockey series against India

NEW DELHI: Soyez Frederic slammed in a superb hat-trick as France held India to a 3-3 draw and clinched a two-test field hockey series here on Tuesday.

France had defeated eight-time Olympics gold medallists India 3-1 in the opening match on Monday. The young French side, here on a learning tour, drew with India as they put up a superb rally after trailing 3-0 until early in the second-half.

For the home side, Arjun Halappa struck twice and Tushar Khandkar shot in once, before France put up an aggressive display and launched frequent attacks. The touring side gained five of their six penalty corners in the second session and Frederic made the most of the opportunities by knocking in three of them. afp
