Zardari gets passport

* Intends to go to Dubai in a day or two

KARACHI: Asif Ali Zardari was issued a new passport and his name was removed from the Exit Control List (ECL) on Tuesday. He will celebrate the new year with his family in Dubai. “The Interior Ministry excluded him from the ECL and the passport was issued from Karachi,” Abu Bakar Zardari, Mr Zardari’s counsel told Daily Times. He said the petition on issuing Mr Zardari’s a new passport and removing his name from the ECL was filed and the Sindh High Court (SHC) asked the respondents to file their comments during the next hearing. He said the SHC would resume proceedings on Wednesday (today) and therefore the government issued Mr Zardari a passport and excluded his name from the ECL on Tuesday evening. “Getting a passport and able to move freely is my fundamental right and I intend to go to Dubai in a day or two, as my children are in Karachi to take me there,” Mr Zardari said. He said to have a passport was the right of every Pakistani citizen and therefore it could not be linked to baseless speculations regarding a deal with the government. staff report
