Ceasefire should be followed with greater travel links: Benazir
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto has welcomed the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, beginning this week.
In a statement on Friday, she said she hoped that the ceasefire plan would be followed with a greater opening of travel links between the two countries to build greater confidence.
“Violent acts in the past had scuttled peace efforts and much of the success of the ceasefire plan rested on whether violence would lessen in intensity,” she said.
She said she hoped that militant groups would give non-violent methods an opportunity to build a better life for Kashmiri people. She said she was concerned to see that relations between Islamabad and its neighbours had reached a low point with the destabilisation of democracy in 1996. —SANA
