Capt Hamad will be punished if found guilty: Ghani
ISLAMABAD: Awais Ahmed Ghani, the governor of Balochistan, has said that Captain Hamad, who is allegedly involved in the gang-rape of a woman doctor in Sui, will be punished if found guilty.
He said that Captain Hamad was undergoing a DNA test and an independent inquiry was also under way to investigate the incident.
Talking to journalists on Friday at Balochistan House, Mr Ghani said that there was no need for Governor’s Rule in the province. He said foreign involvement could not be ruled out in the Balochistan unrest, but the government could not name a country.
He said that some miscreants were using foreign weapons for violence, but the government was trying to ensure security in Balochistan. Mr Ghani rejected a military crackdown in Balochistan, saying that the government had quiet contact with Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and Sardar Akhtar Mengal to resolve the crisis.
He said the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians and the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy were also being contacted to settle the issue peacefully. He said the government had decided in principle to launch a coastal defence system to protect sensitive installations in Balochistan. The governor hinted that the government was considering military cantonments elsewhere in the province if necessary, to maintain security. agencies
