Musharraf approves new method for appointing VCs
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: President Musharraf in his capacity as the chancellor of federal public sector universities has approved a revised procedure for appointing vice-chancellors of federal public sector universities.
It has been decided that in the future, a vice-chancellor search committee will be constituted and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) will forward names of proposed committee members to the chancellor. Once the chancellor has approved the members, HEC will advertise the position of the vice-chancellor in national newspapers. The search committee will then short list and interview the applicants and forward three names to the chancellor for consideration. The chancellor may appoint any of the proposed individuals or ask for fresh recommendations from the committee.
This revised procedure will ensure that vice-chancellors are competent administrators and scholars of international eminence, who can provide the much-needed academic leadership in public sector universities.
