MMA also rocks Peshawar
PESHAWAR: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazlur Rehman (JUI-F), two main component parties of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) religious alliance, staged a rally to protest the exclusion of the religion column from the new machine-readable passports (MRP) on Friday. The MMA rally marched from Masjid Karam Shah in Qissa Khwani Bazaar soon after the Friday prayers and reached Qabli Chowk where the alliance’s district leaders addressed the participants. The protestors shouted slogans against the government and the United States and demanded immediate restoration of the religion column in the passports. The MMA leaders vowed to continue the agitation unless the column was restored. They asked President General Pervez Musharraf to quit his army office and retain the president’s post or vice versa. The protestors opposed the alleged military operation in Balochistan and stressed the need for a dialogue to solve the problems in the province. The MMA alleged that the United States wanted to seize Balochistan’s mineral wealth. They also demanded the immediate arrest and punishments for the rapists of the woman doctor. staff report
