PPL cooperating with authorities in rape case

Staff Report

SUI: Muhammad Iftikhar, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) general manager, said on Friday that the PPL was cooperating with the authorities in the rape case of a woman doctor.

Talking to journalists at a Sui Gas Plant, he rejected the recent accusation by Jam Yousuf, Balochistan chief minister, that the PPL management was not cooperating with the police.

The PPL general manager said the doctor had earlier told her neighbour that someone beat her up and robbed her. “She did not want to register a first information report. Therefore we did not force her to do so,” he said, adding that the doctor concealed the rape from everyone.

He expressed his ignorance about how the news of rape was leaked to the media. He said two senior police officials had come to record the doctor’s statement, but she was too disturbed to record her statement. He said the doctor was shifted to Karachi by the PPL on the advice of doctors. He denied the involvement of any PPL employee in the incident.
