Petition against Rizvi’s detention disposed of
Staff Report
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday disposed of a petition seeking the whereabouts of journalist Khawar Mehdi Rizvi after Deputy Attorney General Syed Zaki Mohammad submitted details of the case against Mr Rizvi to the court.
The deputy attorney-general explained the nature of charges against Mr Rizvi and provided information about Mr Rizvi’s to the court. He said Mr Rizvi was arrested in Quetta under sections 120-B 124-A 153-A 416 and 419/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Nadeem Qureshi, counsel for Mehdi Rizvi’s brother, asked that Mehdi be allowed to meet his family but the court refused, saying the Sindh High Court could not give such permission because the matter came under the Balochistan government’s jurisdiction. The petition was filed after the arrest of French journalists Joel-Marc Epstein and Jean Paul Guilloteau in Karachi on December 16.
