SC issues notice to SME Bank chief
ISLAMABAD: A full bench of the Supreme Court on Wednesday served contempt of court notices to the president and head of the institutional integrity division of the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Bank Limited.
The contempt petition was filed by SME Bank Senior Executive Vice President Mehfooz Ellahi Piracha who was terminated from service by SME President Qaiser H Naseem and Institutional Integrity Division Head Lt Col Syed Akbar Shah. However, the Federal Service Tribunal (FST) reinstated Mr Piracha terming his dismissal as biased.
The SME Bank filed a petition in the SC seeking the disposal of the FST judgement after the reinstatement of Mr Piracha, which the SC dismissed in Mr Piracha’s favour. Mr Shah wrote a letter to Justice Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi in which he stated that the removal of Mr Piracha was not biased and his dismissal was in consonance with the legal provisions and according to rules.
Mr Piracha, through his lawyer contended that Mr Shah was in contempt of court by writing a letter to the judge who ordered the judgment. He asked the court to start contempt of court proceedings against Mr Shah. —Staff Report
