Govt promotes rear admiral and commodore

ISLAMABAD: The government announced the promotion of Rear Admiral Asad Qureshi and Commodore Riazullah Khan to the rank of Admiral and Rear Admiral respectively.

Vice Admiral Asad Qureshi was commissioned in the Pakistan Navy on December 1, 1970. He witnessed the 1971 Indo Pak war onboard PNS Jahangir, a press release said.

His maritime appointments include the Executive Officer of a Minesweeper, a Destroyer and the Command of a Brooke class Destroyer. He also held the distinctive commands of both Destroyer Squadrons 18 and 25. His shore assignments included director of projects, deputy naval secretary at Naval Headquarters, deputy commandant Pakistan Navy War College Lahore and chief staff officer to the commander in Karachi. He has also served as the head of the Pakistan Mutual Group in the Sultanate of Oman, director general Maritime Security Agency and director general (Operation) Port Qasim Authority. Vice Admiral Asad Qureshi has been decorated with Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military), he currently holds the office of Karachi commander.

Rear Admiral, Riazullah Khan was commissioned in the Pakistan Navy in the logistics Branch in 1973. He has held various command, staff and in structural appointments, which include supply officer commanding officer of Air Depot onboard ships, Director of Budget, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Budget & Management) and Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Supply). The admiral has also served in the Special Services Group (Navy) and in the National Accountability Bureau. In addition, he has been a member of the Pakistan Navy advisory team to Qatar.

In recognition of his meritorious services, Rear Admiral Riazullah Khan has been decorated with Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military) and appointed as the Director General Defence Purchase.
