LHC hears plea against IMAX cinema today
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court will hear a writ petition against the building of an IMAX-cinema and theatre, a project sponsored by the Punjab Entertainment Company, on Tuesday.
The Rs 800 million project was called into question by Farhan Rafiq of PASS, an NGO represented by former bureaucrats including former IGPs Salman Khalid and Nisar Cheema and former Railways member Hadi Iqbal. He said that no other government in the world had established such an entertainment company at that cost. He said the project was unjustifiable in the light of the diminishing rate of cinemagoers in the city. He said the cinema was being built in a playground which had been catering to the sports needs of locals and students of adjacent schools. staff report
