Govt plans to overhaul PMDC: federal minister
LAHORE: The government is planning new legislation to improve the healthcare system, overhaul the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), and make a comprehensive national health policy for the next five years, Federal Health Minister Muhammad Naseer Khan said on Monday.
PMDC rules are being revised, the minister said at the oath taking ceremony for new officials of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) on Monday afternoon. He said new laws governing organ donation and traditional medicine would be proposed soon.
Khan said the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan needed an effective check by the government. Discussions on a five-year national health policy would begin soon and the PMA would be consulted all these issues. He said the government was also working on strengthening basic health units and rural health centres. Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed addressed the ceremony as guest of honour. staff report
