‘Varsity research vital to meet globalisation’

Staff Report

PESHAWAR: Globalisation is the real challenge and it needs to be addressed by giving importance to research in universities, according to Lt Gen (r) Mumtaz Gul, vice chancellor of the Peshawar University.

Mr Gul said this at the concluding session of a workshop on “Thermodynamics and Electrochemistry” at the Centre of Excellence in Physical Chemistry.

The centre organised the workshop in collaboration with the National Core Group in Chemistry and the Higher Education Commission. Dr Haroon Rashid, dean of the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences, Syed Mustafa, director of the Centre of Excellence in Physical Chemistry, and teachers of various universities also attended the workshop.

“Chemistry being an important member of basic sciences offers huge opportunities in various areas of science and technology. It is therefore important for us to develop excellence in its various specialisations to be able to form a strong knowledge-driven economy,” the vice chancellor said.
