ISLAMABAD: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has praised the achievements of micro-finance in the country, according to a statement issued on Monday.
The ADB delegation participated in the international conference on micro-finance. The statement said the process of micro-finance sector development in Pakistan, started in 1999, was a model for third world countries.
Marshuk Ali Shah, ADB country director, said the establishment of micro-finance banks in Pakistan by the private sector, including international investors, was a result of the conducive policies and legal framework available in the country. He said micro-finance banks and agencies established in the last five years should collectively respond to the government’s emphasis on sustainable outreach. staff report
