Lashkar warns Israel over threat to Hamas chief
SRINAGAR: A hardline Islamic militant group, Lashkar-e-Taiba, on Tuesday warned Israel against harming the spiritual leader of radical Palestinian Islamic group Hamas.
However, the outfit did not specify what it would do if Sheikh Yassin was attacked.
Lashkar’s threat comes after Israeli Deputy Defence Minister Zeev Boim said that Mr Yassin was a marked man who “deserves to die” in what appeared to be a veiled threat to resume a policy of assassinating Palestinian militants. “Sheikh Yassin is marked for death, and he should hide himself deep underground where he will not know the difference between day and night. And we will find him in the tunnels, and we will eliminate him,” Mr Boim said. —AFP
