DCO directs quality food in Ramazan
LAHORE: Lahore District Coordination Officer (DCO) Khalid Sultan on Friday directed the Food Squad Department of the City District Government Lahore (CDGL) to especially check the quality of food during the month of Ramadan.
Mr Sultan issued the directions while taking serious notice of a successful raid conducted by the Food Squad officials at Ichhra from where 250 kilograms of substandard tomato ketchup was recovered.
According to an official handout issued on Friday the raid was conducted on a tip at a local factory owned by Shahzad Ahmad. Food Department Deputy Director Chaudhry Muneer Ahmad supervised the raid while Chief Food Inspectors Pirzada Muhammad Sagheer and Arshad Ali Shah, along with Food Inspectors Tariq and Muhammad Ayyub were part of the team.
It was discovered that the ketchup was being prepared with starch and sub-standard food colour. There were no signs of tomatoes in the ketchup’s ingredients. Mr Ahmad was also running the factory illegally and a case has been registered against him. —Staff Report
