Deadlock affecting town development, says Hassaan

* Data Ganj Bakhsh Town nazim says opposition relies on politics of ‘falsehood’
* His deputy lied that town council didn’t appreciate his work

By Amir Nafees

LAHORE: Data Ganj Bakhsh Town Nazim Khawaja Ahmad Hassaan on Thursday said his deputy lied that the town council did not pass a resolution that appreciated his work as nazim.

Talking to Daily Times, Mr Hassaan said the resolution was passed at the Ravi Town council’s monthly meeting and was later presented to Speaker Muhammad Usman. He said newspapers also published reports about the resolution. “Record shows that my opponents are lying,” he added.

He said the opposition members wanted to prove that their politics was based on “false statements”. He said his opponents must have courage to accept the truth. He said development work had been stopped because of political uncertainty in the town. “The opposition members should not make people suffer,” he added.

Opposition members including Abdul Samad Ghani, Mian Riaz Ahmad, Shahid Saeed, Abdul Qayyum and Yousaf Lodhi denied in a joint statement that the town council passed a resolution in favor of Mr Hassan.

However, Union Council No 83 Naib Nazim Nazir Khan Sawati said he attended the meeting in which a resolution appreciating Mr Hassaan’s work was passed. He said the opposition members should face the reality that Mr Hassan was a popular politician. He demanded the government make sure developmental schemes in the area were completed on time.

Data Ganj Bux Town Anjuman-e-Tajiran President Aziz Sheikh said problems of the area were not being solved because of the political deadlock. He said development work should not fall victim to political differences.
