PILDAT workshop to bring MPAs and nazims closer

Staff Report

LAHORE: A two-day workshop on “Federal, provincial and local governments’ demarcation of rules, issues and possible solution for MPAs” will be held on September 29 by the Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) in collaboration with the Punjab Assembly Secretariat.

A PILDAT official said the workshop is planned in the wake of reported conflicts between the local government nazims and MPAs and in some cases their displeasure with the centre. He said the workshop is aimed at providing elected representatives with a platform to promote understanding among them. He said this would create a friendly atmosphere in the country. “PILDAT has taken the initiative under the programme to build legislative capability,” he said.

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi will preside over the opening session on Monday which will be addressed by PILDAT Executive Directed Ahmad Bilal Mehboob, political analyst Dr Hasan Rizvi and Senator SM Zafar. The afternoon session of the opening day will be presided over by Qasim Zia, the opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly. Senator Sanaullah Baloch, Abdul Akbar Khan from the PPPP and former federal minister, Senator Khalid Ranjha and the opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmad Khuhro will deliver lectures.

On the second day, Punjab Local Government Minister Raja Muhammad Basharat will preside over the first session. Native National Reconstruction Bureau Chairman Daniyal Aziz National Reconstruction Bureau Member Naseemul Haq and former federal minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will speak on various topics related to the subject of the workshop.

The workshop participants will also hold group meetings to prepare reports on various subjects that will be presented in the concluding session. Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Muhammad Afzal Sahi will preside over the concluding session.
