PU to seek govt’s help against illegal campuses

By Waqar Gillani

LAHORE: The Punjab University in its ongoing drive against illegal campuses in its territorial jurisdiction issued notices to two more campuses of a private university on Friday.

PU Registrar Colonel (r) Masud-ul-Haq told Daily Times that notices had been issued to two Bakai University campuses, one on Raiwind Road and the other in the provincial metropolis. “The university has been given a 15-day deadline to close the two campuses,” he added. The PU on Thursday directed six chartered universities to close their 50 campuses operating in its territorial jurisdiction without its permission.

He said notices were issued after a clear-cut direction from the Higher Education Commission (HEC), adding all illegal campuses would be identified and closed.

Mr Haq said managements of these universities would try to engage the PU in a legal battle to prolong their operations but the PU would seek the Punjab government’s help in taking action against them. He said the names of all colleges affiliated with the PU have been publicly advertised.
