247th Bulleh Shah fair begins
LAHORE: The 247th Urs (anniversary fair) of Sufi saint Baba Bulleh Shah began on Thursday in Kasur with religious fervour and enthusiasm, a news channel reported. Thousands of the devotees including a 22-member Indian delegation are attending the three-day fair.
Bulleh Shah’s real name was Abdullah Shah. From Abdullah Shah it changed to Bulleh Shah. There is difference of opinion among research scholars about the time of his birth and death. Most, however, believe that he lived from 1680 to 1758. Bulleh Shah’s father, Shah Muhammad Dervish, was well-versed in Arabic, Persian and the holy Quran. Bulleh Shah’s childhood was spent under the care of his father at Pandoke, a village near Kasur. He received his early education from his father and was later educated by Hazrat Ghulam Murtaza and Maulana Mohiyuddin. He attained mystic realisation through his contact with his Murshid or Master, Shah Inayat Qadri who was a great sufi saint. daily times monitor
