PPPP to protest GTC in Senate, National Assembly
Staff Report
HYDERABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) Senator Abdullah Ryar announced in a news conference here on Saturday that his party would raise objections to the Greater Thal Canal (GTC) project in the National Assembly and the Senate.
He said the GTC was a major national issue but the federal government had ignored and violated democratic norms and was being dogmatic, unilateral and forceful in the construction of the canal against the wishes of the people of Sindh.
Ryar said that the Sindh Assembly unanimously passed a resolution against the project and demanded immediate halt to the canal construction but the federal government did not give any importance to the assembly’s decision.
About the LFO, he said it was imposed on the nation to keep the elected houses paralysed. He said Prime Minister, Zafarullah Khan Jamali was powerless and helpless before President Musharraf and the recent visits of President Musharraf to foreign countries had made that more obvious. Senator Abdullah regretted loss of lives and damage to property due to the recent monsoons.
