Mangla contract will be reviewed

ISLAMABAD: The Senate body on water and power on Tuesday decided to review the Rs 62b Mangla Dam contract awarded to the Chinese company CWE-JV as it violated the technical committee’s recommendations. PPPP’s Dr Abdullah Riar said the company gained pre-qualification after providing incorrect information to the technical committee. The contract should have been awarded to Sinohydro JV based upon the technical evaluation of the two lowest bidders, he said.

He said company was awarded contract by WAPDA despite admitting before the recommendation committee that it provided incorrect information about its previous records. “One of the major criterion for bidders was that every contractor should have completed a hydro project worth $200m.
