Staff Report
LAHORE: “Homoeopathic medicine is effective,” said Dr Bushra Mateen, vice chancellor of the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), at a workshop held there on alternative medicines.
Dr Iftikhar Waris, Waris Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital principal, said that homeopathic medicines did not have side effects or compatibility problems with other drugs. “Homoeopathic medicines can be used by all age groups and patients of chronic diseases are often cured through homoeopathy,” he said.
Dr Amanullah Bismal, chief executive of BM Industries Pvt Limited, talked about the types of alternative medicines: acupuncture, homoeopathy, herbal medicines, tissue salts and herbals. He said that the World Health Organisation had directed all government agencies to arrange workshops on alternative medicines.
He said that pharmacists should specialise in quality assurance, quality control, good manufacturing practices, ISO-9001 regulation and ISO-14001 regulations. “The pharmaceutical factories should be well-planned, well-maintained and free of contamination. Workers need to be educated and trained to ensure this,” he said.
