Royaat to host paintings by two of Changez’s students
LAHORE: A paintings exhibition titled ‘Images of Soul’ by two young artists Rahat Ismail and Samina Jamshed will open here at Royaat Gallery, 2 Kashmir Road on Thursday (April 28).
The two artists are students of noted painter Raja Changez Sultan, former director general of the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA). The artists got their masters in fine arts from Peshawar University and Fatima Jinnah University, Rawalpindi.
The students’ paintings have strong stamp of Changez’s style. Ismail’s paintings use shades usually found in Changez’s work. Jamshed’s work is bolder, and she uses strong lines in her figure paintings. Her paintings are strongly reminiscent of Dvaid Colin’s work.
Faryal Latif, director of Royaat Gallery, told Daily Times that the exhibition would carry around 28 paintings and would continue throughout May.
She said that it was necessary to provide new artists with a space to foster their creativity. “Each year, Royaat will select and sponsor shows of the most gifted junior artists,” she added.
Latif said that Royaat gallery had established itself as one of the most well respected art galleries in Pakistan. “Royaat is an Arabic word for a place of beauty – considered by many to be Pakistan because of its great contemporary painters,” she said.
