Zakat to be distributed on merit

LAHORE: Punjab minister for Zakat and Ushr Khadim Wattoo on Wednesday said that the selection of families deseved of Zakat would be made on strictly merit basis.

He was addressing a workshop of Zakat and Ushr Committee chairmen at the Punjab vocational training centre, Gulberg. He said that employees of Zakat and Ushr departments must be careful in performing their duties.” We want to rehabilitate people from low-income groups in such a way that they become tax-payers instead of seeking assistance from the government, “ he observed.
