Musharraf feasts with Christian community
ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf on Friday noted with pride the exemplary harmony and peace that exists between Muslims and minorities in Pakistan.
“We do not believe in ideological and political divides because it tends to drive a wedge between civilisations and religions,” Mr Musharraf said, while speaking to guests at a dinner in honour of the Christian community Christmas. “Today, as the world collectively deals with challenges posed by terrorism, we should also avoid creating new ideological and political divides,” he added. The president said Islam, like Christianity, taught tolerance, magnanimity and respect for human life. “As Muslims, we share the joy of Christmas with our Christian brethren,” he added. The president extended Christmas greetings to the Christian community in Pakistan and around the world. A large number of representatives from the Christian community also attended the dinner.—APP
