Seoul welcomes apology over clash

SEOUL: North Korea expressed regret to South Korea on Thursday over a naval clash last month which killed five southern sailors, and offered to renew talks in a gesture Seoul swiftly welcomed as “highly significant”.

North Korea’s change of tack and tone just a day after it issued a bellicose warning of more troubles over a disputed Yellow Sea border stopped short of accepting blame for the June 29 attack by the North’s navy on its southern counterparts. —Reuters
