FIA refuses to release directors for NAB
By Shaukat Piracha
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) has refused to release its directors as well as the police officials working in the authority to the National Accountability Authority (NAB) under the government’s scheme for the merger of FIA’s Economic Crime and Anti-Corruption Operation Wings with the NAB, official sources told Daily Times on Wednesday.
They said the FIA director general has written to the relevant authorities and explained that the authority’s directors could not be released to the NAB. “The posts of the directors cannot be spared by the FIA. The functions and job description of the post of zonal directors in FIA were already communicated to the committee constituted in light of the Cabinet’s decision on the subject and it was agreed that the work of directors was not confined to crimes or anti-corruption but is a multi-dimensional role which needs to be carried out by the FIA,” sources quoted the contents of the said letter.
