US reopens its embassy in Kenyan capital
NAIROBI: The United States reopened its embassy in the Kenyan capital Nairobi on Wednesday after shutting it on Friday because of what it called a serious terrorist threat.
An official confirmed the embassy had reopened but would not give further comment.
The US embassy in Nairobi was the target of a bombing in 1998 which killed more than 200 people, an attack the US blames on Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda organisation. On Friday, a US official said Al Qaeda operatives were continuing to plan attacks in Kenya and the Horn of Africa and could “undertake an operation at any time”. —Reuters
