Guard Rice Polo Cup: Learning Alliance crush Sutlej Rangers

LAHORE: Three matches were decided on the opening day of the Guard Rice Polo Cup Tournament at the Lahore Polo Club here on Saturday.

PIP Group, Learning Alliance and Diamond Paints scored big victories against their respective rivals.

In the first match, Diamond Paints defeated RD Sargodha by 10 to 6½ goals. The quartet of Diamond Paints completely dominated the match from the very beginning and never allowed their opponents, who had two and a half goal advantage, to score freely.

Teams:

Diamond Paints: Umar Sadik, Mir Shoaib Ahmad, Punhal Yar Kumman, Maj Adnan. RD Sargodha: Shoaib Sipra, Khalid Pervaiz, Abdul Rehman, Munawar Baig. The match was officiated by Agha Murtaza Ali Khan and Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana.

Learning Alliance were overpowered Sutlej Rangers in the second match of the day. The horsemen of Learning Alliance taught polo lesson to lowly Sutlej Rangers, who had 2 goals handicap, with 15 to 5 goals thrashing. Usman Haye and Ahsan Javed Sher slammed four goals each while Bilal Haye added five goals and Junaid Ahmad two.

Teams:

Sutlej Rangers: Master Faaiz Haider, Master Asif Manzur, Saqib, Master Imran Najeeb. Learning Alliance: Junaid Ahmad, Ahsan Javed Sher, Usman Haye, Bilal Haye. The match was supervised by Shah Shamyl Alam and Taimur Mawaz Khan.

The last contest of the day saw PIP Group emerging the winners against Tri Star, supported by 1½ goal handicap, by 9 to 5½ goals. Agha Bilal Haider (2) and Atif Yar Tiwana (3) and Zeeshan Asaf (2) contributed goals for the winners while Abid Nawaz Khan scored two goals for the losers.

Teams:

Tri Star: Saeed Aslam Khan, Abid Nawaz Khan, Nasir Ahmad Khan, Ehsan Ellahi. PIP Group: Zeeshan Asaf, Agha Bilal Haider, Faaiz Rahim Khan, Atif Yar Tiwana. The umpires were Hussain Iftikhar and Naveed M Sheikh.
