Ban all Jewish groups, demand Russian nationalists
MOSCOW: A group of extreme nationalist members of the Russian parliament on Tuesday called on the country’s legal authorities to ban “all Jewish religious and community groups” which they described as “anti-Christian” and a threat to Russia. In an appeal which came as much of the world was marking the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi extermination camp of Auschwitz, the deputies issued a statement asserting that “the whole democratic world today is under the financial and political control of the Jews.” “We would not want our Russia, which is subject to a permanent, extra-legal war seeking to prevent its rebirth, to find itself among unfree countries,” the statement said.
The appeal was signed by 20 members of parliament, including those of the ultra-nationalist party of Vladimir Zhirinovsky and a handful of members of the Communist and the Fatherland Nationalist parties. afp
