LAHORE: The promotion of education is one of the prime objectives of the present government and efforts are being made to enhance country’s literacy rate, said Senate Chairman Muhammadmian Soomro at a function held in connection with the International Literacy Day celebrations at the Alhamra Hall on Saturday.

It focused on women and children of the rural areas including children who worked in carpet weaving, surgical instrument manufacturing and football industry, she added.
Shaheen said that 6,547 literacy centres were educating 400,000 working children in 20 districts of Punjab. She said the BLCC had motivated 7,000 children who were now receiving education in 1,500 public schools.
