Government to pay for domestic violence victim’s treatment

LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to pay for Amna’s medical treatment and plastic surgery, said an official statement on Saturday. Amna’s brother-in-law amputated her nose and lips in a domestic violence. She was shifted to Nishter Hospital, Multan, from District Headquarters Hospital, Dera Ghazi Khan, said the statement. Adviser to Chief Minister on Social Welfare Saba Sadiq said that the Nishtar Hospital medical superintendent had been directed to provide free treatment to the victim. She said that Dr Naheed would carry out the surgery and Amna might be brought to Lahore for better treatment. Saba said the woman was also being provided security and free legal aid. The Punjab government had ordered the Dera Ghazi Khan deputy inspector general to arrest the criminal, she added. Saba will visit Multan to inquire after the victim’s health. staff report
