Firefighters save rare lizard from fire

Firefigthers in the western Canadian city of Calgary rescued a rare, bearded dragon lizard from a fire, according to media reports.

The lizard was loose in an apartment suite, kept there as a pet when a fire broke out unexpectedly. “Firefighters were a little nervous to pick him up at first,” a fire department spokesperson told a local newspaper. “You get everything. It’s really ridiculous sometimes. I think the lizard was actually happy to be picked up.” Rescuers took the animal outside to avoid exposure to extreme heat and smoke. Another lizard of the same type died in the blaze. Bearded dragons are usually found enjoying hot temperatures in deserts. afp
