Star-crossed lovers end strife with suicide

LAHORE: A young couple committed suicide together on Monday after their engagement was broken off. They left behind a note saying they wished to be buried together.

Baghbanpura police officials told reporters that Muhammad Yaseen and his relative Ghazala Bibi, residents of Najam Park Noor Colony, were in love and engaged a few months ago.

However, the engagement was later broken off by their parents. The couple tried to convince their parents, but they refused to allow them to marry.

Ghazala came to Yaseen’s house on Monday evening, locked themselves in a room and shot themselves in the chest. After hearing the shots, the family broke open the door and found Yaseen and Ghazala dead on a charpoy. A letter was found nearby in blaming their parents for the suicide and asking to be buried together. The bodies were sent to the city morgue for autopsies. staff report
