PM urges transfer of power to Iraqis
* Says Pakistan supports Crown Prince Abdullah’s ME peace formula
RIYADH: Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali urged the transfer of power to the Iraqi people according to the schedule announced by the coalition.
“Pakistan wants power transferred to the genuine Iraqi leadership without any foreign interference and that should be done according to the timetable,” the prime minister said in an interview with an Arab magazine. The prime minister is in Saudi Arabia on a five-day tour. He said Pakistan supported Crown Prince Abdullah’s peace formula for the Middle East.
He said Israel’s illegal and unwarranted occupation of the Palestinian territory and its army’s terror campaign against unarmed Palestinians was a serious issue, which called for the immediate attention of the international community. “We support Prince Abdullah’s peace plan and want the immediate withdrawal of Israeli troops from occupied territory,” he said.
The prime minister said his visit to Saudi Arabia would strengthen ties between the two countries, particularly in the commercial and economic fields. The prime minister said he would discuss with the Saudi authorities ways to expand bilateral economic relations and the problems facing the ummah.
The prime minister said the Kashmir dispute was a major human problem that needed to be addressed on priority. He said the dialogue process between Pakistan and India is in progress, and hoped that it would have a positive outcome.
Earlier, Jeddah Governor Amir Misha’al bin Majid bin Abdul Aziz received the prime minister. online
