ICC Cup: Spinner Sheikh gets call-up to Kenyan squad
NAIROBI: Left-arm spin bowler Mohammed Sheikh was Friday selected in a 13-man Kenyan squad for the semi-final of the ICC Intercontinental Cup against Bermuda in Namibia next month.
The Australian-based spinner is the only notable inclusion in the team that beat hosts Namibia in June in Windhoek to qualify for the October 23-25 semi-finals. The 25-year-old Sheikh last played for Kenya in the 1999 Cricket World Cup in England as an understudy to the then skipper Asif Karim before leaving for studies in Australia.
Despite the absence through injury of opening batsman Ravindu Shah, the selectors said the team was well balanced to face the challenge of Bermuda, the American regional champions who are coached by former West Indies batsman Gus Logie. Kenya will play a two three-day match against Zimbabwe A in Harare in their build-up for the Namibia tournament. afp
