‘Govt and US to sign $500m debt write-off deal’
ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz told Daily Times on Wednesday that the government was going to sign an agreement on Monday to write off about $500 million out of the remaining $2 billion owed by Pakistan to the US, leaving the total debt at about $1.5 billion.
The minister said US Ambassador to Pakistan Nancy Powell and Economic Affairs Division Secretary Dr Waqar Masood would sign the agreement. “The government will also take up the case of the remaining $1.5 billion that Pakistan owes the US.” zamir haider
