Panic lands couple in Upper Chenab Canal

SIALKOT: An official jeep fell into the Upper Chenab Canal at Head Marala when a boy and a girl tried to speed away after seeing a Chenab Rangers patrol unit. The vehicle was parked along the canal when the couple apparently panicked on seeing a Chenab Rangers jeep. Some employees of the Irrigation Department rescued the two. Police said the couple initially gave wrong names and said that they were not from Sialkot but on being detained for questioning, they informed the police of their true identities and that they were residents of Sialkot. The boy also informed the police that the jeep belonged to his father who is a government official. Police has registered a Hudood case. Efforts were underway on Wednesday to retrieve the jeep. staff report
