Internal security better, says Musharraf
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf said on Monday that the government had minimised the internal security threat and Pakistan was on its way to development.
Speaking at the National Defence College, the president said necessary measures were being taken to ensure Pakistan’s stability.
“The objective is to ensure a conducive environment for economic progress and nation building,” he said, adding that the government was committed to sustained economic growth through industrialisation and was promoting the agro–based economy. He said after having checked the rise in poverty, efforts were now under way to reduce poverty, control inflation and price hike because “this can help control extremism and give voice to a wide majority that is mainly moderate.” He expected that this majority would reject the elements of extremism and bring forth moderate, genuine and patriotic leaders to serve the nation as the world was keenly watching Pakistan’s internal security scene.
Earlier, the participants of the National Defence Course presented a paper on Internal Security Strategy for Pakistan, which analysed the security environment in Pakistan and comprehensive response strategy. The president praised the paper and said that he was pleased that the curricula profile of the NDC was keeping pace with the changing security environment.
