Navy rescues 12 crew of Korean ship
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Navy on Monday rescued 12 crewmembers of a Korean merchant ship “MV HORIZON-9” that caught fire about 15 miles southwest of Karachi.
According to an Inter-Services Public Relations press release, the ship’s propulsion system and electric power broke down and it became “not under command” with its crew trapped and waiting for assistance.
Upon receiving a request from the Maritime Security Agency, Pakistan Navy responded immediately and launched a rescue operation. An Allouette helicopter was sent for damage assessment and to rescue critically injured crewmen. Later, Pakistan Navy’s fast patrol craft, PNS Larkana, and two ocean-going tugboats, Rustam and Delair, were sent. staff report
