Hezbollah denies threatening US
BEIRUT: Lebanon’s fundamentalist Hezbollah movement denied US allegations that it posed a potential threat to the US, in a statement carried by the Lebanese press.
“The US administration from time to time makes baseless accusations against us, saying that Hezbollah constitutes a potentiel threat to American territory,” the statement said.
“Hezbollah denies these accusations en bloc and asserts that the United States, which supports Israel’s criminal acts against the Palestinian people, is the instigator and controller of all evil in the world.” Washington was “the last in the world fit to make accusations and classify peoples, countries and organisations”, it said.
The United States State Department’s annual “Patterns of Global Terrorism” report released Tuesday maintained Hezbollah’s backers Syria and Iran on its list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism. It also expressed concern about Hezbollah activists alleged to be active in a number of Latin American countries. —AFP
