Shop to employ pregnant wine tasters
Tesco super market chain is to employ pregnant women as wine tasters after bosses discovered they have heightened senses of taste and smell. Store chiefs have decided to launch the initiative after four female members of staff in the wine department at Tesco HQ in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, became pregnant.
Wine taster Helen McGinn, who has been a tester for nine years, was the first to notice a dramatic change in her sense of smell.
As her pregnancy progressed, the 31-year-old was able to detect minute differences in taste and texture. She’s become particularly skilled at identifying cork taint - wine that has become spoiled by oxidisation. The scheme is expected to start within the next six months - after all members of the Tesco wine team have given birth. —Ananova
