President confers civil, military awards on 124 citizens
ISLAMABAD: The President General Pervez Musharraf on Sunday conferred civil and military awards on 124 individuals in recognition of their outstanding services in different fields at an investure ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Saddar.
Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali was present at the awards ceremony.
The President conferred 31 Hilale -e-Imtiaz Military awards on the senior officers of the army, navy and air force. They included Lieutennant General (Lt Gen) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, Vice Admiral Muhamamd Haroon and Air Marshal Tanveer Mehmood Ahmed. The President also conferred 93 civil awards including Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Shujaat, Sirata-i-Imtiaz, President’s Award for Pride of Performance, Sitara-e-Khidmat, Tamgha-e-Shujaat and Tamgha-I-Imtiaz. Chairman Higher Education Commission, Professor Dr Attaur Rehman was given Nishan e Imtiaz.
The recipients of Hilal-e-Imtiaz included Muhammad Irfan Burney, Lt Gen (r) Jehandad Khan, Chairman WAPDA Lt Gen (r) Zulfikar Ali Khan, Dr Shams Qassim Lakha, State Bank Governor Dr Ishrat Hussain, former Secretary General Finance Moeen Afzal, prominent journalist and former Ambassador to Washington Dr Maleeha Lodhi and Mehdi Hassan.
Recipients of Sitara-e-Imtiaz included editor of Business Recorder Muhammad Ahmed Zuberi, Inspector General Police Syed Kamal Shah and Zia Mohiuddin. Those decorated with the Pride of Performance award included cricket commentator Iftikhar Ahmed, folk singer Abdul Aziz Baloch, Radio and TV actor Syed Munawwar Saeed, boxer Haider Ali and mountaineer Rozi Ali.
Those who attended the ceremony included the chairman and deputy chairman of the Senate, speaker and deputy speaker of the National Assembly, federal ministers, judges of the superior judiciary, chief election commissioner, services chiefs, senior civil and military officials and diplomats.—SANA.
