Iraqi minister warns against attack on Syria and Iran

DUBAI: Iraq’s interim foreign minister said in remarks published on Wednesday that any attack on neighbouring Iran or Syria could destabilise Iraq but that there was no indication the United States would resort to force. “It is in our interest as Iraqis that there not be any confrontation near our country, especially with our neighbours, because we will also be affected by such developments while we are faced with the task of rebuilding our country and ensuring stability and development,” Hoshiyar Zebari said. “All this requires an atmosphere of security and internal and regional calm,” he told London-based Asharq al-Awsat newspaper. “What we are hearing publicly and in bilateral meetings confirms there are no moves to open other fronts,” he added in response to whether he expected the United States to direct a military strike against Iran or Syria. reuters
