Shahbaz confirms marriage to Tehmina

Washington: Shahbaz Sharif, president of the Pakistan Muslim League (N), confirmed on Tuesday that he had married Tehmina Durrani in 2003. Addressing a meeting of party leaders, journalists and several other people at a New York restauartant Sharif, who recently underwent a successful medical check-up, was subjected to a rally of questions about his marriage, despite his request that it be treated as a private and personal matter. All he would say was that he had confirmed reports that he and Tehmina were married, but beyond that he was not willing to say anything, nor should he be pressed to do so. At times, the exchanges got testy. He was asked if there was family pressure on him to dissolve the marriage. He replied, “There is no pressure on me.” He was also asked why news of the marriage had taken so long to break. He also called for national reconciliation and political stability which, he added, could only be achieved if exiled leaders were allowed to return home. He denied he had struck a deal with the government. Later that evening, Sharif flew by British Airways to London. khalid hasan
