Demonstration outside hospital

LAHORE: The relative of a teenage girl, who died on Friday in a trust hospital (Surriya Azeem) during a kidney dialysis procedure, protested in front of the hospital on Sunday. Huma Ali (13) had been suffering from a kidney disease for the last two years.

On Friday, she felt serious pain and was brought to the hospital for treatment where she died. “Her death is the outcome of doctor negligence,” said Irfan Qurashi, Huma’s uncle. Mr Qureshi said that the senior kidney surgeon of the trust hospital, Dr Anwar Rasheed Chaudhry, demanded Rs 8,000 for treatment and after her admission to hospital no senior doctor came to see the girl and junior doctors treated her.

Dr Chaudhry told DT that patient was brought into the hospital in a critical condition and they tried their best to save her. “A very competent doctor was treating her,” he said. He refused to name the doctor who had treated Huma. Around two dozen people staged protest outside the hospital and demanded the registration of a case against the doctor allegedly responsible for the girl’s death. —Staff Report
