WAPDA signs Kurram Tangi dam consultancy project

LAHORE: WAPDA has signed Rs.82.94 million consultancy agreement with the Joint Venture of Pakistan Engineering Services (Pvt) Ltd, MM Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd, Progressive Consultants (Pvt) Ltd, IN Consult (Pvt) Ltd, Khyber Consulting Engineers in association with M/s Coyne-Et-Bellier of France for the preparation of feasibility study detailed engineering design and tender documents for Kurram Tangi Dam multipurpose project.
Engineer Ch Riasit Ali, General Manager Planning & Design Division (Water), WAPDA and Engineer Jamil Anwar, managing director of Pakistan Engineering Services (Pvt) Ltd signed the contract for consultancy services on behalf of their respective organizations on Wednesday. The assignment is scheduled to be completed in 24 months.
The proposed 340 feet high dam is to be located across Kurram River in North Waziristan Agency, about 22 KM upstream of Kurram Garhi Headworks and 32 KM north of Bannu City in NWFP. The project reservoir with a live storage of 8,30,000 acre feet will help agriculture development of 84,500 acres in Thal area, Shertala and Spara rough plains supplementing existing system of 2,15,000 acres under Civil and Marwat canals. The project power station will house three units to generate 58 MW of hydel energy.
